The Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years setting is a very important stage as it helps your child get ready for school as well as preparing them for their future learning and successes.
This is a statutory curriculum for children age 0 to 5 years, which has been fully revised from September 2012.  It emphasises that from when a child is born, until the age of 5, their early years’ experience should be happy, active, exciting, fun and secure; and should support their development care and learning needs.  In the two early years classes we follow a legal document called the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.
The revised EYFS puts a much greater emphasis than previously, on parents’ role in helping children to develop.
In addition to RE, there are seven areas of learning and development.  All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected.  Four areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

The prime areas, are:

·         Religious Education
·         Communication and Language;
·         Physical Development;
·         Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
We also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.

The specific areas are:

·         Literacy;
·         Mathematics;
·         Understanding the World; and
·         Expressive Arts and Design.

Our Early Years setting will enable our children to move into KS1 with confidence, as the children will have acquired both independence and knowledge through well-planned play and learning activities, both indoors and outdoors.
