St Gregory’s Catholic Academy
With respect for God and united in faith,
we place service before self to inspire hearts and minds.
By achieving together through our love and faith,
we place Christ at the centre of all we do.
Our Mission Statement is ‘Service before self, as a Catholic school our fundamental mission is to promote the teachings of Christ through our Mission Statement, daily worship and the teaching of RE which includes teaching pupils about other faiths, traditions and cultures so that they learn to understand and appreciate the richness and diversity of our school and global community.
Our curriculum adds richness and enjoyment to our pupils learning, fostering their interest in the wider world, its processes and history, its people and their societies; in the arts and culture; in computing and the digital world; and in sports and healthy lifestyles. In all these, it promotes values necessary to live in our society today. We deliver the National Curriculum in a way that is appropriate to our city, our area and our school. It is a curriculum, which sets in place firm foundations to promote life-long learning and self –esteem of the children.
The curriculum is designed to recognise prior learning, provide first hand learning experiences, allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers. The bespoke curriculum ensures that every child realises their own potential based upon their strengths and talents.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual; we celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values. We provide enhancement opportunities to engage learning and believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge.
Our Curriculum aims include:
• provide challenges through a progression of skills
• having transferable skills, knowledge and expertise
• being stimulating, creative and fun fostering a love of learning
• encouraging the asking of ‘big questions’
• acquiring a rich vocabulary
• morally, spiritually and culturally aware
• working well as a team
• persevering through challenge
• regularly being creative and problem solving
• promoting respect for others
We have a number of Curriculum Events planned across the school year. These can all be seen in the school calendar and many of the special moments are captured and shared on our facebook page and Twitter. Please look out for them!
