Attendance at St Gregory’s Catholic Academy
At St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that good attendance is essential for children to achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally. Regular attendance helps children to build strong routines, friendships and a positive attitude towards learning.
We are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers to support good attendance and punctuality for all pupils.
Why Good Attendance Matters
-
Children who attend school regularly make better progress in learning
-
Good attendance supports emotional wellbeing and social development
-
Poor attendance can lead to gaps in learning that are difficult to close
-
Habits formed in primary school support future success in education
Our aim is for all pupils to achieve attendance of at least 97% or above.
Clear policies are in place and consistently implemented. Parents and pupils are expected to follow the attendance policy for each academy. Headteachers, or designated senior staff, will liaise with other colleagues where any term-time absence is requested where pupils are also attending other CMAT schools.
All academies employ Education Welfare Officers to support the schools' stringent procedures for monitoring attendance and persistent absenteeism.

Medical Appointments
Where possible, medical and dental appointments should be made outside school hours.
If an appointment must take place during the school day, please inform the school in advance and provide evidence (appointment card or letter).
Punctuality
School begins promptly each morning. Arriving late can be unsettling for children and disrupt learning.
-
Registers are taken at the start of the school day
-
Late arrivals are recorded and monitored
-
Persistent lateness will be followed up with parents/carers
We appreciate your support in ensuring your child arrives on time every day.
How We Monitor Attendance
Attendance is monitored regularly by the school. This includes:
-
Daily register checks
-
Weekly attendance reviews
-
Identifying patterns of absence or lateness
If concerns arise, we will contact parents/carers to discuss how we can work together to improve attendance.
Supporting Families
We understand that there may be times when attendance becomes a concern due to illness, family circumstances or other difficulties.
St Gregory’s is committed to:
-
Working sensitively with families
-
Offering support and guidance
-
Signposting to additional help if needed
Please contact the school if you are experiencing difficulties affecting your child’s attendance — early communication helps us support you better.
It is the Policy of the CMAT that holidays will not be authorised during term time. Strict procedures are in place to monitor all absence
Working Together
By working together, we can ensure that every child at St Gregory’s benefits from regular attendance, positive routines and the best possible start to their education.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding attendance, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
