Swimming
In previous years children in years 3-6 have taken part in swimming lessons at Fenton Manor Baths to help them to achieve the National Curriculum Swimming Award. This October 2022 we will have our swimming lessons come to us. Elite Swimming Group will be leading our swimming lessons in a inflatable swimming pool for four weeks with years 1 to 6.
Please ensure that your child has a towel, a one-piece swimming suit/tight trunks, swimming cap for all girls and boys will need to wear one if their hair is long. If your child needs to wear goggles, a note needs to be written to give permission for this; however, please note that when your child completes their National Curriculum Swimming Award, they will not be allowed to wear these.
The children will be taught the following in their swimming lessons:
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
- Use a range of strokes effectively [front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke].
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
Elite Swimming Group
"Our programme consists of 3 swimming awards and one Water Safety Award. All of the awards are based off the Swim England school swimming programme but have been adapted to suit the environment and structure of our 'pop up pool' lessons. All pupils should have achieved at least one of the swimming awards by the time our block of lessons has finished. All pupils will cover the Water Safety Award each time we attend the school."
